Ammar Zoni: For the Sake of Allah, I Am Not a Drug Kingpin
JAKARTA - The defendant in the alleged narcotics distribution case at Salemba Detention Centre, Ammar Zoni, denied various accusations related to drug buying and selling activities inside the facility. He made the denial while reading his plea in a hearing at the Central Jakarta District Court on Thursday (2/4/2026). “For the sake of Allah, I am not as accused. For the sake of Allah, I am not a kingpin. For the sake of Allah, I have never once sold, acted as an intermediary, possessed, or even stored those items,” Ammar stated. Ammar then revealed several experiences he faced during the legal process after being secured from Salemba Detention Centre. He said there was no legal counsel present when he underwent the examination report (BAP) process. Ammar also claimed the BAP was made under pressure. “For the sake of Allah, I suffered physical violence, both kicks and verbal abuse from certain police officers,” said the former husband of actress Irish Bella. “I am ready to be held accountable for all my statements,” he continued. As he was about to end his plea statement, Ammar Zoni begged for compassion from the Panel of Judges at the Central Jakarta District Court when they later decide his case. My young children need their biological father, not as a criminal whose life deserves to be destroyed. Previously, Ammar Zoni was demanded a nine-year prison sentence for the alleged narcotics distribution case at Salemba Detention Centre. This demand was read by the Public Prosecutor (JPU) in a hearing at the Central Jakarta District Court, Kemayoran, on Thursday (12/3/2026). Besides Ammar, the JPU also read demands for five other defendants in the same case. “Declare defendant I Asep Bin Sarikin, defendant 2 Ardian Prasetyo Bin Ari Ardih, defendant 3 Andi Mualim or Koh Andi, defendant 4 Ade Candra Maulana, defendant 5 Muhammad Rivaldi, and defendant 6 Muhammad Ammar Akbar guilty of committing a criminal act without rights or against the law,” said the JPU. “Offering for sale, selling, or acting as an intermediary in the buying and selling of Schedule I narcotics in non-plant form weighing more than 5 grams,” he continued. The JPU stated that the defendants are threatened with violating Article 114 Paragraph 2 of Law No. 35 of 2009 on Narcotics, as amended by Law No. 1 of 2024 on Penal Adjustment.
