Amid Lebaran Differences, Pradi Supriatna Calls for Harmony and Unity
Differences in determining the date of Eid al-Fitr have once again become a dynamic issue within society. In response, Pradi Supriatna, a member of the West Java DPRD Commission I, has called on all members of the public to use these differences as a means to strengthen brotherhood, harmony, and national identity. According to Pradi, differences in determining Eid al-Fitr are a natural part of Islamic tradition. He views the existence of varying methods of determination, whether through calculation or sighting, as a long-standing element of the diversity among Muslims in Indonesia. “These differences are not new. In fact, they form part of the richness in religious practice that we must address wisely, while still maintaining harmony within society,” said Pradi on Friday (20/3/2026). He stressed that the public should not overemphasise these differences. Instead, the moment of Eid al-Fitr should be interpreted as an opportunity to strengthen familial ties, preserve social harmony, and reinforce national values. Pradi also reminded of the importance of maintaining stability in the region, particularly in West Java, which has a large and heterogeneous population. He urged all elements of society not to be easily provoked by information that could divide and damage the harmony that has been established. “Do not let these differences be exploited by irresponsible parties to fracture unity. We must continue to preserve togetherness, mutual respect, and nurture harmony,” he said. He encouraged local government and relevant authorities to actively educate the public to remain calm and respect all existing differences. The role of religious leaders and community figures is also considered vital in maintaining harmony and providing calming understanding. Pradi hopes that the people of West Java can continue to uphold the tradition of tolerance that has been built over time. He emphasised that national unity and integrity must remain the top priority above all differences. “Eid al-Fitr is a moment of victory and safeguarding unity and harmony. Let us make these differences a strength to tighten brotherhood and national identity,” said Pradi.
