Ambon City Government Proposes New Hospital Construction to Deputy Health Minister
Ambon — Ambon City Government has submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Health for the construction of a new hospital to strengthen healthcare service delivery for residents in the region.
“Ambon City Government wishes to expand healthcare service access for economically disadvantaged residents,” said Mayor Bodewin M. Wattimena in Ambon on Tuesday.
The proposal was presented during a meeting between Ambon Mayor Bodewin M. Wattimena and Deputy Health Minister of the Republic of Indonesia, Benjamin Paulus Octovianus, in Jakarta on Monday (9 March).
The meeting was attended by the Acting City Secretary of Ambon, the Head of Ambon City Health Office, the Head of Hutumuri In-Patient Health Centre, and the Head of Ambon–Vlissingen Eye Health Centre.
Wattimena explained that the meeting discussed improvements in healthcare service delivery for residents in Maluku Province’s capital city.
According to him, strengthening the health sector forms part of the 17 priority programmes of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Ambon, specifically the “Quality Education and Healthcare Services” programme.
“In that meeting, we presented several strategic proposals to the Republic of Indonesia’s Ministry of Health. One of the priorities is the plan for construction of a hospital owned by Ambon City Government,” he said.
According to Wattimena, the presence of such a hospital is expected to improve the quality of medical services for residents.
Beyond hospital construction, Ambon City Government also proposed improvements and enhancements to health centre facilities across various areas of the city.
He expressed hope that through coordination with the central government, various programmes strengthening the health sector in Ambon City would receive support so that healthcare service delivery for residents can be increasingly optimised.
Ambon City Government is also committed to continuing health sector improvements in phases, both through enhanced facilities and infrastructure, strengthening of healthcare personnel, and collaboration with the central government.
“The objective is to ensure residents receive equitable and quality healthcare services,” he said.
