Amazon has committed over $33 billion (approximately Rp584 trillion) to Southeast Asia by 2039, focusing on cloud infrastructure and artificial intelligence (AI) development.

The investment will be allocated across four countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand.

According to Amazon, the investment is projected to contribute over $64 billion (around Rp1.13 quadrillion) to the combined GDP of these nations and support more than 56,300 jobs annually.

Amazon stated that Southeast Asia is a crucial region for digital economy and AI technology growth.

The ASEAN region is estimated to become the world’s fourth-largest economy with a digital economy valued at $560 billion (approximately Rp9.91 quadrillion) by 2030.

“Building infrastructure, training local workforce, and enabling businesses across the region to compete globally,” said David Zapolsky, Amazon’s Chief Global Affairs and Legal Officer.

In Indonesia, Amazon has launched various skills training programmes in collaboration with the government and local organisations.

One such initiative involves generative AI training for students and teachers from 21 senior high schools in West Java, where over 2,600 participants created 10,821 generative AI applications in a single day, setting a Guinness World Record for “The Most Apps Made In An On-site Generative AI Event”.

Additionally, the Seattle-based company has partnered with PT PLN through a 210-megawatt green tariff agreement to support renewable energy usage in Indonesia.

According to Amazon’s official blog, the company claims to have trained over 2.7 million people in Southeast Asia in cloud and AI skills since 2017.

Amazon stated it will continue expanding technology investments, digital skills development, and government partnerships across Southeast Asia to ensure widespread and sustainable access to AI opportunities.
