Indonesia’s Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo has disclosed the sequence of events leading to the resignations of two Directors General within the Ministry of Public Works: Dewi Chomistriana, Director General of Housing and Settlements, and Dwi Purwantoro, Director General of Water Resources.

The resignations are linked to findings by the State Audit Board (BPK) regarding alleged state financial losses initially valued at nearly Rp 3 trillion, which subsequently reduced to approximately Rp 1 trillion.

“The information regarding the resignations of the directors general is indeed correct, and it stems from findings by the State Audit Board,” Dody stated on Monday (2 March 2026). “The BPK sent me letters twice, as I recall in January 2025 and August 2025.”

Dody explained that the first letter from the BPK, received in January 2025, indicated potential state losses of nearly Rp 3 trillion. He immediately instructed his team to address these findings, though he noted that expected follow-up actions had not materialised adequately.

In addition to updating the loss valuation, the BPK provided several recommendations, including the formation of an ad hoc committee and establishment of task teams within each work unit (satker) to accelerate recovery of state losses caused by third parties. However, these recommendations were reportedly not optimally implemented.

Observing the lack of concrete steps, Dody took direct control of the matter. “I then took over. We will establish an ad hoc committee and form new teams within the satkers so that the recovery of state losses can be faster and not disrupt the daily operations of the satkers,” he stated.

Dody emphasised that this approach was necessary to improve the performance of the Inspector General’s office going forward. He also noted that establishing the ad hoc committee and new teams represents implementation of a directive from President Prabowo Subianto.

“That is why I have been handling this more strictly. I have formed my own team, which I chair myself, and I consider this team to be one of the clean brooms—clean brooms, not regular brooms, which I still regard as clean brooms,” Dody explained.

“Then, thank God, I have been assisted by the Attorney General. The Attorney General has placed three clean brooms in my office as well. So it cannot be said that the resignations happened suddenly, nor can it be said there was no prior process,” he added.

“When I began deploying my clean brooms to work, those involved chose to resign. That is roughly how it happened,” he concluded.

According to Dody, the resignations of the two directors general did not occur abruptly but rather in the context of an ongoing process to address the alleged state losses, now estimated at approximately Rp 1 trillion.
