BEKASI, KOMPAS.com – Allegations of extortion targeting waste truck drivers in Gang Lurah, Sumur Batu sub-district, Bantargebang district, Bekasi City, have resurfaced after a video confession went viral on social media.

The video, uploaded to the Instagram account @radar_bekasi on Tuesday (24/2/2026), shows a number of waste trucks heading to the Sumur Batu Landfill (TPA).

In the recording, the drivers claim they are being asked for money by a group of residents each time they pass through the area.

Initially, the truck drivers were allegedly asked to pay Rp30,000 to Rp50,000 per vehicle.

However, the tariff is said to have later changed to Rp5,000 each time they pass through.

The Bantargebang Police Chief, Commissioner Sukadi, said that his office had previously followed up on similar reports by conducting on-site inspections.

He stated that this practice is not happening for the first time.

“Yesterday, I had ordered members to check the location. They said that the extortion had stopped. But now it has reappeared, I don’t understand,” said Sukadi when confirmed by Kompas.com, Thursday (26/2/2026).

According to Sukadi, the route is used as an alternative because the main access road to the Sumur Batu Landfill has been affected by a landslide for the past few months.

As a result, the waste trucks are diverted to pass through Gang Lurah.

However, he emphasized that the practice of extortion by anyone is not justified.

“Whatever the reason, extortion by local residents is prohibited,” he stressed.
