All segments of society urged to commit to creating a safe space for women and children
Jakarta — The Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection is calling on all segments of the nation to jointly create a safe space for women and children from all forms of violence.
“The pledge we utter together is not the end, but the start of a long-term effort. This commitment must take root in policy, in the workplace, in educational spaces, in digital spaces, and especially in families. The state is committed to ensuring that no woman lives in fear and that children grow up in trauma,” said Minister of PPPA Arifah Fauzi in a statement from Jakarta on Friday.
The pledge, bearing the message “We Do Not Want to Be Victims and Do Not Want to Be Perpetrators of Violence”, was proclaimed on the 118th National Awakening Day at the National Awakening Museum, Jakarta.
“The nation’s awakening will be complete only when women feel safe and children grow up in the embrace of trust. A strong family is the foundation of a nation that excels. The spirit of this pledge must continue to be nurtured and become our shared way of life,” said Minister Arifatul Choiri Fauzi.
KemenPPPA, together with the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs, continues to strengthen cross-ministerial collaboration to provide a safe space for women and children.
This effort is important in light of data from the 2024 National Life Experience Survey for Women (SPHPN), which records that 1 in 4 women aged 15 to 64 have experienced physical and/or sexual violence.
The 2024 National Survey on the Experiences of Children and Adolescents (SNPHAR) shows that 1 in 2 children aged 13 to 17 have experienced violence in any form.
Arifah Fauzi added that several priority agendas are being monitored, including strengthening the Sahabat Perempuan dan Anak (SAPA) 129 services, expanding UPTD PPA to district/city levels, expanding the Desa/Kelurahan Ramah Perempuan dan Peduli Anak programme, which is currently transforming into Ruang Bersama Indonesia (RBI), and strengthening reporting mechanisms in workplaces and educational units.
