Jakarta (ANTARA) - The start of the week always has its own story. Some return to their workplaces in distant cities, others continue their journeys to different towns, and some have just disembarked from aeroplanes and want to reach their destinations quickly. Amid this movement, trains serve as connectors that make journeys feel more organised, predictable, and comfortable.

Throughout the first quarter of 2026, KAI Group’s land-air services, encompassing airport trains managed by KAI Bandara, the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Commuter Line, South Sumatra LRT, KA BIAS, and KA Minangkabau Ekspres, served 3,743,082 passengers. This figure illustrates how inter-city and airport-connected travel is increasingly becoming part of everyday life.

Of that total, airport train services managed by KAI Bandara served 1,755,275 passengers, an increase of 8.48% from 1,618,119 passengers in the first quarter of 2025. Many passengers now choose trains because travel times can be estimated, making trips to airports more certain.

In Yogyakarta, journeys to YIA have become part of daily routines. The YIA PSO service served 469,615 passengers, and YIA Xpress served 227,652 passengers. From the city centre to the airport, travel feels more measured with predictable durations, allowing passengers to depart with greater peace of mind.

In North Sumatra, KA Srilelawangsa continues to connect Medan with Kualanamu Airport and surrounding areas. A total of 406,936 passengers used the Medan-Kualanamu Airport route, while 651,071 passengers continued to Binjai and Kualabingai. Trains have become an integral part of seamless daily mobility.

In Jakarta, the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Commuter Line served 640,510 passengers, up from 517,166 the previous year, representing growth of about 23.85%. For many, trips to the airport now feel calmer, no longer fully dependent on road conditions.

In Palembang, the South Sumatra LRT served 1,084,242 passengers. From the airport to the city centre and the Jakabaring area, journeys feel more connected along a clear route.

Meanwhile, in Central Java, KA BIAS (Adi Soemarmo Airport) served 208,583 passengers, up from 159,092 in the same period the previous year, or growth of about 31.11%. From Madiun and Solo to the airport, travel feels closer and more accessible.

In West Sumatra, KA Minangkabau Ekspres served 54,472 passengers in the first quarter of 2026. This service remains a crucial link from Minangkabau International Airport to Padang city and Pulau Aie. Its role is particularly evident during floods and landslides in Padang, when access for volunteers and aid distribution proceeds more smoothly.

KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba stated that connected journeys are a need increasingly felt by the public.

“Passengers’ journeys today are increasingly interconnected. Trains help facilitate transitions from cities to airports and onwards to the next destinations. We want journeys to feel calmer, with clear timings and reliability,” said Anne.
