All govts in Sumatra fully operational again after disasters: minister
He told the press in Jakarta on Monday that the Sumatra Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Acceleration Task Force, alongside all relevant ministries and agencies, has mobilized to restore normalcy in Sumatra.
Previously, according to him, many village and sub-district administrations were severely impacted and had halted operations.
“Several village offices were affected. While they are operational again, some are currently operating from temporary shelters, while others are operating from actual offices, village heads’ homes, or other locations,” he said after a meeting on Sumatra post-disaster recovery with the House of Representatives (DPR).
He further noted that electricity, fuel, and internet services are generally up and running. However, some villages in Central Aceh and Central Tapanuli remain isolated due to landslides blocking roads.
“Hospitals, healthcare facilities, and community health centers (puskesmas) are also in relatively good condition, though the Minister of Health will continue to optimize them,” he remarked.
Despite the isolated villages, he confirmed that all national roads across Sumatra are now fully reconnected, with damaged bridges successfully repaired.
Meanwhile, DPR Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad affirmed that through the task force, the DPR and the government have discussed the master plan for Sumatra’s recovery, and its budget has been approved.
Three provinces in Sumatra—Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra—were hit by floods and landslides triggered by heavy rainfall in late November 2025.
According to data from the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), the disasters claimed 1,207 lives and left 137 others unaccounted for.
