Alert for Jakarta's Coastal Flooding 1–8 May 2026: These Areas at Risk
JAKARTA – The Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD DKI Jakarta) has issued an early warning for coastal flooding (banjir rob) expected to occur from 1 to 8 May 2026 in northern Jakarta’s coastal areas.
This warning is based on information from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) regarding the potential rise in sea levels due to the maximum high tide phenomenon coinciding with the new moon phase and perigee.
The combination of these conditions could increase sea levels and trigger banjir rob in several coastal areas.
BPBD DKI Jakarta notes that the peak of the maximum high tide is expected to occur from 8:00 PM to 1:00 AM WIB.
The affected areas are urged to increase vigilance against possible inundation due to rising sea levels.
Recommended anticipatory measures include avoiding activities in rob-prone areas during high tides and ensuring that drainage channels around homes function properly to reduce the risk of flooding.
Residents are also asked to continue monitoring official information on weather and sea wave conditions via the bpbd.jakarta.go.id/gelombanglaut website.
In emergency situations, the public can contact the Jakarta Siaga 112 service for quick assistance from relevant officials.
BPBD emphasises that this early warning is issued as a mitigation effort so that the community can anticipate the potential impacts of banjir rob from the outset, especially in areas geographically located in northern Jakarta’s coastal regions.
