Aldila Sutjiadi Advances to the Morocco Open 2026 Semi-Finals
Professional tennis player Aldila Sutjiadi advanced to the women’s doubles semi-finals at the 2026 Morocco Open in Rabat, partnering Vera Zvonareva, after a dramatic victory over American sisters Carmen Corley and Ivana Corley. The Aldila/Vera pair, the top seeds in the WTA 250 event, prevailed in a super tie-break by 6-4, 6-7(9), 10-5 in the quarter-final on Wednesday in Rabat, Morocco (local time 20 May).
In the first set, Aldila and Vera exploited their advantage in aces and the efficiency of their first-serve points. The opponents, meanwhile, committed several double faults and dropped their serve in the opening game.
Entering the second set, the Corley sisters played more aggressively, forcing a 5-5 score. Aldila and Vera briefly led after taking the eleventh game as their opponents lost serve.
However the American pair responded by converting one of three break points in the following game to level the match. The match then proceeded to a tight tiebreak won by the Corley sisters 9-7.
Aldila and Vera fought back in the super tiebreak, opening with a 4-1 lead and maintaining control to seal the victory in one hour and 47 minutes.
In the semi-finals, Aldila/Vera will face Nika Radisic and Katarzyna Piter, a Slovenia-Poland pairing who advanced after knocking out the third seeds Shuko Aoyama and Liang En-shuo in straight sets 7-5, 6-4.
Aldila is now Indonesia’s last hope of lifting a title at the Morocco Open 2026, as another Indonesian in singles, Janice Tjen, had been knocked out in the second round. Tjen, the top seed in the singles, was defeated by Colombia’s Camila Osorio in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 0-6. That loss was Tjen’s second to Osorio after previously losing at the Merida Open in February.
Tjen is scheduled to compete in the Roland Garros Grand Slam in Paris, France next week. The tournament will be her third career Grand Slam appearance following the US Open last year (via qualifying) and the Australian Open at the start of this year. (H-4)
