Alcatel wins GSM order
JAKARTA (JP): Alcatel of France and PT Satelit Palapa
Indonesia (Satelindo) signed a new 5-year supply and installation
frame agreement for Satelindo's GSM network.
Under the agreement, valued at over US$130 million, Alcatel
will implement the third phase of its global system mobile (GSM)
communications network for the island of Java, providing coverage
for key economic areas such as Jakarta, Surabaya, Bandung and
Semarang.
Alcatel said that the contract calls for turnkey supply and
installation of a complete GSM system, including network
subsystem elements, base station controllers and radio base
stations as well as the associated microwave transmission
equipment and the necessary engineering services.
Alcatel's system, with a deployment schedule of one year, will
provide Satelindo with sufficient additional network capacity to
cope with the steady increase in traffic and customers.
Satelindo's president, Iwa Sewaka, said his company is
committed to increasing investment in order to speed up GSM
network deployment.(hen)
