JAKARTA — Religious Affairs Minister Prof KH Nasaruddin Umar received an audience with Quranic reciters and Islamic preachers who are graduates of Al-Azhar University, Egypt, at the Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs in Jakarta on Monday, 9 March 2026. These young Islamic scholars form a delegation from the Council of Muslim Ulama (MHM) and will conduct Islamic preaching tours across various regions in Indonesia during Ramadan 1447 Hijriyah.

The presence of these scholars represents part of strengthening strategic cooperation between Indonesia and international Islamic institutions in disseminating moderate, peaceful, and harmonious Islamic preaching.

Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin expressed appreciation for Al-Azhar Egypt’s role as one of the world’s major centres of Islamic scholarly civilisation, which has strong historical ties with Muslims in Indonesia.

“I extend a warm welcome to the young scholars present here. Egypt is a country with a very significant Islamic scholarly tradition. Many renowned imams, Quranic reciters, and ulama in Indonesia are graduates of Al-Azhar University,” Nasaruddin said in a statement on Monday, 9 March 2026.

The audience was also attended by the Director General of Islamic Guidance Abu Rokhmad, the Director of Islamic Religious Affairs Information Muchlis M. Hanafi, the Director of Islamic Religious Affairs Arsad Hidayat, and Special Staff to the Religious Affairs Minister Ismail Chawidu.

The Al-Azhar preachers and Quranic reciters are scheduled to work in several strategic regions in Indonesia, including South Sumatra, South Sulawesi, East Kalimantan, the Nusantara Capital Region (IKN), West Nusa Tenggara, Jakarta, and West Java.
