Aksesmu, together with WE+, has launched a Business Protection Programme for street vendors to provide business insurance coverage to vendors enrolled in Aksesmu’s Outlet Binaan Aksesmu (OBA) network. The programme is a collaboration with WE+, a digital insurance e-commerce platform offering comprehensive protection solutions.

Through this programme, street vendors can obtain business protection of up to 100 million rupiah integrated directly through transaction activities in the Aksesmu application, making access to insurance protection easier and more practical.

Currently, Aksesmu has more than 141,000 active members spread across Indonesia, from Aceh throughout Sumatra, Java, parts of Kalimantan, Bali, Nusa Tenggara, South and North Sulawesi to Manado and Ambon. Through the Business Protection Programme, Aksesmu hopes to help more street vendors benefit from its digital ecosystem, not only in facilitating access to trading stock but also in obtaining business protection that has traditionally been considered expensive and complicated for small business operators.

Street vendors can access the Business Protection Programme by downloading the Aksesmu application and enrolling as OBA Mandiri Ritel, self-managed outlet members who order trading stock directly through the application. Through these transactions, OBAs can activate business protection offered with WE+ at a premium of 0.15% of transaction value.

The programme is available not only to vendors already enrolled as Outlet Binaan Aksesmu but also to other street vendors wishing to join Aksesmu. Vendors not yet enrolled as OBA can join by downloading the Aksesmu application and registering. Through trading stock purchases on the Aksesmu application, vendors can then access the business protection programme offered with WE+.

According to data from the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises, the number of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia reaches approximately 64.2 million business units, contributing around 61% to national gross domestic product and absorbing approximately 97% of Indonesia’s workforce. However, the level of business protection through insurance remains relatively low, with insurance penetration in Indonesia ranging from 2–3%, leaving most small business operators vulnerable to various business risks such as fire, theft and natural disasters.

Hans Harischandra Tanuraharjo, President Director of Aksesmu, stated that the collaboration with WE+ forms part of the company’s commitment to offering more comprehensive solutions for street vendors. “Warungs (street shops) are an important part of the people’s economy. Through collaboration with WE+ in launching the Business Protection Programme, we aim to provide additional protection for vendors so they can operate their businesses with greater peace of mind. We hope this programme will help strengthen the resilience of warung businesses amid various possible risks,” he said.

Milza Oktavira, Chief Operating Officer of WE+ (PT Kita Indonesia Plus), stated that the partnership with Aksesmu represents an important step for WE+ in expanding access to insurance protection for small business operators in Indonesia. “As a digital insurance e-commerce platform, WE+ has a mission to make access to insurance protection easier and more inclusive. Through partnership with Aksesmu, we can provide business protection for street vendors who previously may not have had access to insurance products,” she emphasised.

Through this programme, street vendors conducting transactions on the Aksesmu application can activate business protection directly during transactions. The protection value is adjusted to the vendor’s total transactions on Aksesmu over the past three months, with maximum protection value up to 100 million rupiah.

The protection covers various risks that can affect warung operations, including damage to business premises from fire, stove or gas explosions, flooding, earthquakes, landslides, vehicle collisions, accidents and loss of merchandise due to theft with violence. The programme also provides compensation to business owners in certain circumstances related to business activities.

Enthusiasm for the programme has also come from street vendors enrolled as Outlet Binaan Aksesmu. One example is Niar, owner of Warung Salebuy Store in Tangerang. “As a street vendor, we sometimes worry about unexpected events like fires or loss of merchandise. With this business protection in place, I feel more at ease running my daily business,” she said.

Through the collaboration between Aksesmu and WE+, the Business Protection Programme is expected to expand access to business protection for MSMEs whilst strengthening Indonesia’s digital warung ecosystem.
