Airlangga: Private Sector WFH Policy Awaits Ministry of Manpower Circular
The government is preparing regulations for work from home or work from home for private sector employees through a circular from the Ministry of Manpower. Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto stated that the regulation is still being drafted to suit the needs of each business sector. “The implementation of work from home for the private sector will be further regulated through a circular from the Minister of Manpower, while still considering the characteristics and needs of each business sector,” Airlangga said during an online press conference on Tuesday (31/3/2026). “The regulation through the Minister of Manpower’s circular also covers the movement for energy efficiency in the workplace,” he added. Airlangga emphasised that not all sectors can implement WFH. Several sectors must still work from the office or in the field. “There are sectors that are excluded. Once again, sectors excluded from WFH and still working from the office or in the field,” he said. He detailed that public services such as health, security, and cleanliness will continue normally. Strategic sectors are also not included in this policy. “Namely public service sectors such as health, security, cleanliness, as well as strategic sectors such as industry or production, energy, water, basic commodities, food and beverages, trade, transportation, logistics, and finance,” Airlangga stressed. Airlangga explained that the choice of Friday considers the shorter working hours compared to other days. “Friday is chosen because some ministries have implemented a four-day work pattern per week since post-Covid-19 pandemic. In addition, Friday also has non-full working hours like Monday to Thursday,” he said.
