Airlangga: One Day of WFH per Week Saves One-Fifth of Daily Fuel Consumption
Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Airlangga Hartarto, stated that to optimise budgets, the government will implement a work-from-home (WFH) policy for one day per week. After a meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta, Airlangga expressed confidence that the policy, to be enacted after Eid, will save up to one-fifth of daily fuel consumption. “The savings are quite significant, one-fifth of what we usually spend,” said Airlangga on Thursday, 19 March 2026. Regarding the technical details, Airlangga said they would be studied further. In addition to civil servants, Airlangga hopes that private companies will also adopt the policy. “The technicalities will be prepared. It is hoped that not only civil servants, but also private sector and local governments will implement it,” said Airlangga. Once the implementation concept is mature, Airlangga promised to inform the public immediately. He stated that this one-day-per-week WFH policy will begin after Eid. However, he has not specified the exact timing. “After Eid, but we will determine the timing later,” he said. It is known that the WFH proposal had previously been put forward by President Prabowo Subianto to respond to the impact of the Middle East conflict. The President acknowledged this by looking at what Pakistan has done, which reduced working hours to four days. “So they consider this critical and call it critical measures. It seems that for them, this is like our previous COVID situation. They implemented work from home for all offices, government and private, with 50 percent working from home. Then, they cut workdays to only four days,” he said.
