The meeting, held on the sidelines of the Kazan Forum 2026, was jointly chaired by Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Airlangga Hartarto, and Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister, Denis Manturov. “This meeting also provided an opportunity for both sides to review the progress of bilateral cooperation implementation while discussing various priority issues in Indonesia-Russia economic relations,” Airlangga explained in his statement on Wednesday (13/5/2026). The 14th Indonesia-Russia Joint Commission session, held on Tuesday (12/5), is an annual event and a strategic moment to strengthen the direction of economic partnership between the two countries amid global economic dynamics. The event also follows up on the directives of the leaders of both countries after the meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and President Vladimir Putin on Monday (13/4). The plenary session discussed the development of bilateral economic relations between the two countries, as well as future priority agendas, particularly in the sectors of trade and investment, agriculture and fisheries, energy, industry, higher education and science, and strengthening engagement between business actors. Airlangga further emphasised that the holding of the 14th Indonesia-Russia Joint Commission reflects the continuity of both countries’ commitment to strengthening more concrete and mutually beneficial economic cooperation. This aligns with the momentum of the 76th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries this year. “The 14th Joint Commission also serves as an important platform to ensure that the strategic partnership between Indonesia and Russia can be followed up with more tangible economic practices. Especially amid the current global order and dynamics, Indonesia is promoting cooperation oriented towards mutual interests, one of which is through the utilisation of the Indonesia-EAEU FTA,” Airlangga stated. Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Manturov encouraged renewed active participation for the development of cooperation between the two countries in the future, enhancing various achievements of cooperation that have been attained, and continuing to commit to seeking potentials that can be further developed going forward. In the trade sector, Indonesia’s Deputy Minister of Trade, Dyah Roro Esti, conveyed that trade relations between Indonesia and EAEU countries continue to show positive developments, with vast market access opportunities for various national flagship products such as palm oil or coconut products. The Indonesian government is also carrying out the ratification process for the Indonesia-EAEU FTA and encouraging the establishment of the Indonesia-EAEU Business Council as a forum to strengthen connectivity between business actors from both sides. Indonesia’s Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Yuliot Tanjung, also presented developments in energy cooperation between Indonesia and Russia. In line with national needs, the Indonesian government continues to encourage the addition of national power plant capacity with a focus on developing clean energy and strengthening national energy resilience. Furthermore, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sudaryono stated that in 2025, Indonesia successfully achieved rice self-sufficiency as part of the national policy to strengthen food security and increase domestic production capacity, in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s directives. Indonesia and Russia have a natural and complementary partnership, with many opportunities to strengthen agricultural cooperation, including increasing trade in agricultural products. In conclusion, Airlangga emphasised that the results of the 14th Indonesia-Russia Joint Commission need to be followed up by the nine Working Groups (WG) under the Joint Commission framework. “Indonesia is committed to continuing to encourage all WGs under this Joint Commission framework to follow up on cooperation agendas, so that technical issues can be resolved promptly, and the results of this meeting provide real benefits for business actors and the people of both countries,” Airlangga concluded. The Indonesian government also invited Deputy Prime Minister Manturov and the Russian delegation to participate in the Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) 2026.
