Airlangga Hopes PT DSI Can Resolve Trade Data Discrepancies
Economic Affairs Coordinating Minister Airlangga Hartarto hopes that shifting exports to PT Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia will resolve trade data discrepancies between Indonesia and its trading partners. He revealed that discrepancies in trade data can amount to billions of US dollars.
‘For instance, regarding the United States, we believe our deficit is around US$16-17 billion, but they record it as US$20 billion, creating a gap,’ Airlangga said at the National Conference on Regional Economic Development at Balai Kartini, Jakarta, on Monday, 25 May 2026. He added that trade data between Indonesia and China differs by US$20-30 billion.
The former Industry Minister is optimistic that the export mechanism via PT DSI will also boost the value of exporting companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange, as company revenues will become more transparent. Additionally, the government expects DSI’s presence to increase national revenue.
The first phase of the export policy through PT DSI will take effect on 1 June 2026. Airlangga explained that during this initial phase, all export reports will be submitted to PT DSI, allowing companies to continue transacting with their respective partners.
During the initial phase, exporters and cargo owners must register via the Indonesia National Single Window (INSW), listing PT DSI as a co-exporter. ‘Companies will export under DSI’s name,’ he said.
Currently, three commodities must be exported via DSI: crude palm oil, coal, and ferroalloy. Airlangga stated that the export policy through DSI will be evaluated over the next three months and fully implemented from 1 January 2027.
