Airlangga: Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia to be a Special State-Owned Enterprise for Managing Natural Resource Exports
JAKARTA — The government will regulate that the governance of all exports of strategic natural resource commodities can only be carried out by a state-owned export enterprise (BUMN ekspor) or by Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia. Minister of Coordinating Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto explained the policy at a press conference during the delivery of the KEM PPKF 2027 briefing at the DPR RI on Wednesday, 20 May 2026. The policy is part of a new governance framework for natural resource exports intended to strengthen foreign exchange inflows from export proceeds and curb mis-invoicing and under-invoicing practices. “The government regulates the governance of all exports of strategic natural resource commodities to be carried out solely by a BUMN ekspor or Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia,” Airlangga said. The move is aimed at strengthening control and oversight of exports and ensuring that foreign exchange earnings from exports remain in the country. It is also designed to eradicate illegal practices and maximise state revenue from the natural resources sector. Airlangga added that the policy is expected to strengthen Indonesia’s bargaining position in global export markets through more certain supply and payable exports. The initial phase of the new scheme will be applied to three main commodities. The commodities include coal, palm oil, and ferro-alloys—iron-based alloys that contain substantial amounts of elements other than carbon, such as chromium, manganese, or aluminium. The initial implementation will begin with a transition model.
