Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto believes that the governance framework for export of strategic natural resource commodities will help maintain the rupiah’s exchange rate stability by increasing foreign exchange reserves.

“Primarily to prevent and eliminate trade misinvoicing, and to spur economic growth, maintaining exchange rate stability certainly with larger foreign exchange reserves,” Airlangga said in Jakarta on Wednesday.

According to him, the regulation is being implemented because the export of SDA commodities accounts for around 60 percent of national exports.

He explained the three main commodities that will form the initial stage of regulation: coal, crude palm oil (CPO), and ferro alloys.

These three commodities are considered to have the largest contribution to national exports while also significantly affecting foreign exchange earnings and economic stability.

Therefore, the government will strengthen export supervision through a designated state-owned export company, Danantara Sumber Daya Indonesia.

In addition, data transparency on export volumes and values is believed to enhance Indonesia’s trade credibility in the eyes of global markets while boosting optimal state revenue, including taxes, export duties, and non-tax state revenues (PNBP).

He also said this governance will strengthen Indonesia’s bargaining position before international buyers, helping to maintain price stability and expand export market share.

In the initial stage, Airlangga said, export transactions will still be carried out directly by exporting companies with buyers abroad. However, export documentation will be carried out by Danantara Sumber Daya Indonesia during a three-month transition period that the government will evaluate.

From 1 September 2026, all processes of exporting strategic commodities from contracts, goods deliveries to payments will be fully handled by the designated BUMN.

Earlier, President Prabowo Subianto in a Plenary Session of the Indonesian DPR at Nusantara Building, Complex MPR, DPR, DPD RI, Jakarta, on Wednesday, announced the government issued Government Regulation (PP) on the Tata Kelola Ekspor Komoditas Sumber Daya Alam (SDA).

In the latest PP, Prabowo mentioned one of its provisions: BUMN becomes the sole exporter for palm oil, coal, and ferro alloys.

“To achieve our national goals, today the Government of the Republic of Indonesia, which I lead, has issued a Government Regulation on the Tata Kelola Ekspor Komoditas Sumber Daya Alam. The issuance of this government regulation is a strategic step to strengthen the governance of export of our natural resource commodities,” Prabowo said while delivering the Macro-Economic Framework and Key Fiscal Policy (KEM-PPKF) RAPBN 2027 at the DPR plenary session in Nusantara, Jakarta, on Wednesday.

“All sales of our natural resources will start with palm oil, coal, and ferro alloys; we are required to ensure that sales are conducted through a designated BUMN as the sole exporter,” he said.
