The government, through a joint ministerial effort, conducted a strategic visit to the Kura Kura Bali Special Economic Zone on Friday (1/5/2026). This visit serves as support for the development of the financial sector Special Economic Zone. The visit was led by Coordinating Minister for the Economy and National KEK Council Chairman Airlangga Hartarto, together with Minister of Investment/Head of BKPM and BPI Danantara CEO Rosan Roeslani, as well as BPI Danantara COO Dony Oskaria. The visit took place at Sira Village - Grand Outlet Bali, one of the flagship projects of the Kura Kura Bali KEK. This area is the result of a collaboration between PT Bali Turtle Island Development (BTID) and Mitsubishi Estate, scheduled for launch in the middle of this year. Coordinating Minister Airlangga Hartarto stated that this follows President Prabowo Subianto’s directive regarding the establishment of a Special Financial Centre in Bali, referring to the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) model, with the aim of attracting investment flows to Indonesia. “So what can Kura Kura Bali offer as a location for the IFC? It should be discussed directly with Danantara,” Airlangga said, quoted from an official statement on Friday (1/5/2026). He emphasised that the government is refining regulations as the foundation for establishing the financial sector KEK, designed to accommodate various needs for setting up a financial centre, from management schemes to facilities that can attract global investors. In welcoming the visit, BTID, as the Business Entity for Management and Development of the Kura Kura Bali KEK, outlined the advantages of the Knowledge District ecosystem as a suitable location for the financial sector KEK. This is because the Knowledge District is expected to convert knowledge capital, education, and human resources into a new engine of economic growth. “We have prepared the necessary physical infrastructure, institutions, and global partnerships to make Kura Kura Bali the home of Indonesia’s financial sector KEK,” said BTID President Director Tuti Hadiputranto. The Kura Kura Bali KEK provides a supporting ecosystem for the operations of an international financial centre through the presence of a Business Hub designed as a meeting point for the Global Blended Finance Alliance (GBFA) programme, business school, and leading investment pathways in Indonesia. The Knowledge District will also be enriched with an Entrepreneurship and Innovation Centre, serving as a hub for quality education such as the intercultural school ACS Bali, as well as coastal environmental research development at the International Mangrove Research Centre (IMRC).
