AirAsia offers 5,000 free seats to Bali

JAKARTA: The Oct. 1 Bali bombings have prompted Malaysian low- cost airlines AirAsia to offer free 5,000 seats heading to the resort island from Oct. 10 to Oct. 14.

"Bali is one of destinations that has brought AirAsia to where we are today," AirAsia Berhad CEO Tony Fernandes said in a statement. "This is a small contribution from us to give back to the innocent Balinese whose lives were affected in the recent bombing."

"We are still maintaining our two daily flights from Kuala Lumpur to Bali and we certainly do not intend to cut them despite the incident," he added.

Three bombs exploded in Jimbaran and Kuta on Oct. 1, the second that hit the island, killing 23 people. On Oct. 12, 2002, Bali attacked bombs that killed 202 tourists, mostly Australians.

AirAsia said prospective passengers could book through internet at www.airasia.com or via mobile at mobile.airasia.com three days prior to departure date at the latest. While traveling date is between Oct. 17 and Dec. 31. -- JP
