Air Asia Channels Rp13 Billion Donation for Post-Disaster Social Recovery in Palu
Indonesia Air Asia has channelled approximately Rp13 billion in donations to support social recovery in Palu, Central Sulawesi, following the 2018 earthquake and tsunami disaster.
The donations were collected through the #ToIndonesiaWithLove campaign launched by Air Asia Foundation. The programme is being implemented through collaboration with Arkom Indonesia Foundation to support rehabilitation and community-based reconstruction in affected areas.
The collected funds are being used to implement various long-term recovery programmes for communities affected by the disaster.
Achmad Sadikin Abdurachman, Acting President Director of Indonesia Air Asia, stated that the programme encompasses various community strengthening efforts.
“The programme includes the construction of earthquake-resistant housing, coastal village planning development, and the strengthening of community centres as part of social recovery for the community,” said Achmad on Monday (9 March).
Beyond programme implementation, Air Asia Foundation also supported documentation of lessons learned from the activities. Arkom Indonesia Foundation has compiled experiences and recovery practices in a documentary book titled “Pilah, Pilih, Pulih” launched on 6 March 2026.
The book contains accounts of community recovery experiences and community-based reconstruction approaches implemented throughout the programme.
Indonesia Air Asia stated that this commitment represents part of the company’s journey with the Palu community in supporting social recovery whilst strengthening community resilience.
Previously, Indonesia Air Asia also launched inaugural flight operations on the Surabaya–Makassar–Palu route. The route strengthens connectivity between Java and Sulawesi and provides additional travel options for the public.
Passengers can transit in Makassar before continuing to several other cities in Sulawesi such as Palu, Kendari, and Luwuk.
