Aiptu Fery Boosts Village Economy Through SME Mentoring and Goat Farming
Aiptu Fery Hermawan is striving to improve the village economy in Muara Uya subdistrict, Tabalong, South Kalimantan, through mentoring farmers, livestock breeders, and MSMEs. The community policing officer from Muara Uya Police Sector is known locally as a solution-oriented policeman.
For his actions, Aiptu Fery has been nominated by several Muara Uya residents. One nominator, Deka Ali Asad, explained several programmes developed by Aiptu Fery, along with his testimony:
The community policing officer and village head support food self-sufficiency and the economy in the supervised village, with innovations utilising village food security budget for goat livestock assistance to be bred. Thus, the supervised village becomes a model and producer of a goat livestock hub.
Supporting the supervised village’s MSME economy by mentoring MSMEs in processing dried banana tree fronds into economically valuable peci and hat crafts.
Preventing bullying actions with the Bedangsanak programme that embraces and guides children and teenagers to stop bullying.
detikcom then contacted Deka Ali, a local community figure and village official. Deka stated that Aiptu Fery, together with the village, utilised village budget to fund goat and cattle farming.
“Yesterday, that was goat and cattle farming in Uwie Village, then collaboration with various parties, in this case Mr Fery contributed to supervising the implementation of that programme,” said Deka to detikcom on Thursday (12/3/2026).
In this livestock programme, residents were initially funded with breeding goats. The distributed goats came from the village food security funds.
“Some residents were given 1-2 breeding goats. Once they reproduce, they return them to be lent to other residents, and so on,” he explained.
Deka said this goat and cattle farming programme has successfully improved residents’ economy. Residents who were previously unemployed can now earn money through goat farming.
“Clearly, it improves the community’s economy; previously there was no other income, most here are farmers and gardeners; with this programme, it adds income for the community, and it keeps circulating, sustainable,” he said.
In addition, Aiptu Fery also encouraged the community to utilise banana tree fronds to be processed into peci and hats. The MSMEs mentored by Aiptu Fery are also said to be able to improve residents’ economy.
“Mr Hery is very enthusiastic about community activities; he’s really light-handed, Mr Fery. Including the dried banana frond craft that entered the regency level,” said Deka.
Deka added that Aiptu Fery also created the Bedangsanak programme as an effort to prevent child bullying. This programme is packaged in the form of socialisation and counselling at schools and mosques.
“I’ve seen Mr Fery several times socialising at several schools and kindergartens in Uwie Village. You can ask the community; who doesn’t know Mr Fery,” he said.
Aiptu Fery is known by the local community as a community officer who is close to residents. According to Deka, Aiptu Fery also strives to resolve every community problem.
“He is close to all RT heads; if there’s a problem at the RT level, he accompanies first; if it can be resolved in the neighbourhood, it’s resolved there; very close to the community,” Deka revealed.
Collaborating with the Village to Create a Goat Farming Programme
Aiptu Fery was previously a candidate for Hoegeng Corner 2025. Aiptu Fery serves as community officer in three villages: Binjau Village, Uwie Village, and Santuun Village.
Aiptu Fery initially became the community officer in Uwie Village about 4 years ago. At the start of his duty as community officer in Uwie Village, he discussed food security with the village head.
“In the village, there is a food security budget; at that time, we coordinated with the village head to use that budget for goat farming,” said Aiptu Fery in the Hoegeng Corner 2025 programme on Thursday (13/11/2025).
After deliberation, the village agreed to buy 20 goats to be distributed to residents. Aiptu Fery also collaborated with the Livestock Department to ensure the programme runs optimally.
The breeding goats were distributed to residents. Several groups were formed to facilitate the goat distribution.
“Then, if they reproduce, the parent is owned by the group leader or the first carer; the offspring are returned to the village, then distributed to the community again,” he said.
This goat farming programme has been running for more than 3 years. Aiptu Fery stated that 80 percent of Uwie Village residents are now goat farmers.
“So now there are 300-400 goats that have been implemented by the community. Now it has become a model at the regency and provincial level,” he said.
Every week, around 30-50 goats are sold by farmers in Uwie Village. Even some of these goats are supplied to East Kalimantan.
“Alhamdulillah, it can add to the community’s economy. It has been since 3 years ago. Now it’s being developed further with cattle,” he said.
MSME Craft of Peci from Banana Tree Fronds
Another programme mentored by Aiptu Fery is utilising banana tree fronds for peci and hat crafts. This programme has been running for 2 years.
“I learned from craftsmen and teachers at tsanawiyah. Then I invited the community for additional economy. Now there are how many peci craftsmen. Alhamdulillah, one peci can be priced at Rp 80-90 thousand,” he said.
So far, there are four residents making this craft. The main raw material for this craft is dried banana tree fronds.
“We take the dried fronds. The tree still grows; we utilise the dried ones. We dry them again, then shape them once dry,” he explained.
One craftsman can produce 3-4 bags or peci per day. Usually, 25-30 peci are sold and ordered per month.
Creating the ‘Bedangsanak’ Programme to Prevent Child Bullying
Aiptu Fery said that teenage bullying is one of the vulnerable issues.
