In line with the International Women’s Day 2026 commemorations, the non-profit organisation Aidha presents the inspirational stories of three Indonesian migrant workers through its #BersamaBerdaya campaign. The programme highlights the importance of financial education, peer learning, and community support in boosting women’s self-confidence and independence.

Launched in December 2025, the campaign is run in partnership with Campaign for Good. Through the platform’s community vetting process, three Indonesian migrant workers are selected as Duta Berdaya (Empowerment Ambassadors), serving as peer mentors for the migrant workers’ community.

The programme provides grant support, storytelling training, digital communications, and opportunities to share experiences via a community-based platform. This approach is designed to help women develop their potential, foster practical leadership, and reinforce each other in facing various life challenges.

EMPOWERMENT AMBASSADORS

One Empowerment Ambassador, Fitria Hendrawati, describes her journey as a migrant worker starting from a difficult family situation after her father’s illness. “I have to become the breadwinner for my family to meet the needs of my child, my parents, and my extended family. There are no instant results; everything takes time and effort,” she says.

By taking part in Aidha’s training programme, Fitria gradually improved her English, leadership skills, and more prudent financial management. She is now actively sharing her experiences with fellow migrant workers to help them become more confident in planning their futures.

Another story comes from Siti Mujiati, a single mother of two who decided to work abroad after factory work no longer sufficed to meet her family’s needs. Although she had to be apart from her children, Siti used the opportunity to improve her family’s quality of life through education and financial planning. “With courage and education, I can rise and change not only my life but also my children’s future,” she says. Thanks to her commitment to study and financial management, Siti completed a bachelor’s degree, built an emergency fund, and helped both daughters obtain overseas work opportunities.

SAVINGS LOST

Meanwhile, Nur Bayani faced a heavy test when all her savings were lost due to fraud after years of working abroad. The incident briefly left her despondent, but she chose to pick herself up and start again. Through Aidha’s various training programmes, Nur deepened her financial knowledge and increased her confidence in making decisions. “My English has improved, so I feel more confident, and I have also learned business skills. I face every life challenge with the knowledge I have gained,” she says.

As a Empowerment Ambassador, Nur is now actively sharing experiences and practical lessons with fellow migrant workers to better prepare them for economic and life challenges abroad.

Aidha states that the #BersamaBerdaya campaign is part of its commitment to strengthen the empowerment of migrant women through education, practical skills, and community support. In addition, Aidha has opened Indonesian-language financial education classes accessible to Indonesian migrant workers in Singapore. The programme is expected to broaden access to learning and help more women build financial resilience and plan for a better future.
