Jakarta, Kompas.com - Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), Chairman of the Democratic Party and Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, expressed deep regret over Israeli military strikes against Iran.

AHY stated that such an attack would trigger geopolitical shocks, particularly in the Middle East. “We certainly very much regret the occurrence once again of war, Israeli strikes against Iran, which as we know will inevitably cause geopolitical shocks, especially in the Middle East,” said AHY, after attending the Harmoni Imlek 2026 event at Lapangan Banteng, Jakarta, on Saturday (28 February 2026).

According to him, this development would significantly influence global security and stability overall.

AHY assessed that the strikes would impact regional aviation. He expressed hope that Indonesia would take anticipatory measures to prevent the conflict from escalating further and causing greater damage.

“I believe this is something we must be able to mitigate, including hopefully not disrupting aviation too severely. However, airlines will certainly reassess safety as their first priority, because the flight paths are unpredictable in wartime, especially with long-range missiles and drones,” he said.

AHY hoped the conflict would end quickly, as war could cause humanitarian tragedy and severe challenges in the economic sector. “Once again, we hope this can end quickly. Because this will result not only in humanitarian tragedy but also cause various heavy challenges in the economic sector, including global energy,” he said.

According to The Guardian, Israel closed its airspace as a precaution in case Iran responded with drone and missile strikes. An Israeli military spokesman stated that the assault was a preemptive strike to eliminate threats to the nation.

In response to the strikes, the Islamic Republic of Iran declared its readiness to counter-attack Israel, which had struck first against Tehran on Saturday morning (28 February 2026) local time. In a statement from the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Jakarta, the counter-strike represents a legitimate right under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.
