AHY Visits Bekasi Timur Station, Highlights Numerous Level Crossings
Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), visited Bekasi Timur Station following a fatal accident involving the Argo Bromo Anggrek train and a KRL commuter train. AHY raised concerns about the numerous level crossings around Bekasi Timur Station.
“Actually, we have identified from the start that there are still quite a few level crossings. Where the railway tracks also coincide with land transportation routes, meaning roads cross the railway tracks,” AHY told reporters on Tuesday (28/4/2026).
AHY stated that the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) will conduct an investigation. He mentioned that his side will oversee this investigation process.
AHY requested that the KNKT’s investigation be conducted transparently. In addition, he wants to ensure that level crossings around Bekasi Timur Station are guarded.
“At the same time, of course, we identify what can be done immediately. For example, regarding the still numerous level crossings, we must ensure that every railway crossing point has security and staff on guard,” he added.
One level crossing near Bekasi Timur Station is on Ampera Street, about 50 metres from the station. At that crossing, there is no official KAI barrier, only a bamboo ‘barrier’ made by local residents.
Returning to AHY, he also mentioned plans to build a flyover at the level crossing that have not yet been realised. “Earlier, the Mayor mentioned that actually there were already plans before this incident. But it still requires a process,” said AHY.
“I request and I want to encourage accelerating everything because, for example, to build a flyover so that there are no more level crossings, it requires spatial planning preparation and land,” he continued.
For information, the fatal accident began with a Green SM taxi that stopped in the middle of the railway tracks not far from Bekasi Timur Station on Monday (27/4) night. The taxi was then hit by a KRL travelling from Cikarang towards Jakarta.
The KRL involved in the accident with the taxi then stopped in the middle of the tracks. Residents then gathered to help evacuate the taxi.
On the other hand, a KRL heading to Cikarang stopped at Bekasi Timur Station due to the incident between the Jakarta-bound KRL and the Green SM taxi. It was this KRL stopped at Bekasi Timur Station that was then hit by the Argo Bromo Anggrek train travelling from Jakarta.
The death toll from the train accident involving the Argo Bromo Anggrek and Commuter Line KRL at Bekasi Timur Station has risen to 15 people. This number increased from the previous data of 14 people.
“Yes, 15 died,” said Head of Health Services of Metro Jaya Police, Senior Commissioner Martinus Ginting, at Bhayangkara Tk.I Pusdokkes Polri Hospital (RS Polri), Jakarta, on Tuesday (28/4).
