Safety is the top priority. Therefore, I also urge drivers on the road to be careful and comply with traffic regulations,” said Agus after launching the free mudik programme titled “GoMudik: Pasti Ada Jalan Silaturahmi di Kampung Halaman” at the Terpadu Pulo Gebang Terminal in East Jakarta on Friday.

This message was conveyed by Agus as part of the government’s efforts to ensure that the mudik season runs safely, smoothly, and comfortably for the public.

According to him, the high mobility of people during the mudik season requires all road users to be more disciplined in following traffic regulations.

He emphasised that safety must be a primary concern for both private vehicle drivers and public transport operators.

Additionally, Agus reminded drivers not to push themselves when their physical condition is already tired.

If drivers feel tired, bored, or sleepy, he requested that they immediately pull over and rest briefly so that their physical condition returns to normal before continuing their journey.

Moreover, the government and various parties have prepared a number of supporting facilities along the mudik route to help drivers rest.

“If you feel tired, exhausted, bored, and sleepy, stop for a moment and recharge your energy. Many rest areas have been prepared, including buffer zones if anyone wants to travel between islands,” said Agus.

With these facilities in place, he hopes that homebound travellers can utilise them optimally so that the journey is not only smooth but also remains safe.

Furthermore, he emphasised that mudik is not merely an annual tradition but an important moment to strengthen family bonds and foster togetherness in one’s hometown.

He hopes that all members of society can undertake their mudik journey with full happiness without neglecting safety factors.

“With this, the hope is that mudik will not only be a normative activity, but will also truly bring happiness and blessings for all of us,” said Agus.

He further stated that the government continues to work on improving infrastructure readiness and transportation services ahead of the mudik season, including ensuring road conditions.

“This includes rest facilities and coordination with various relevant parties to support the smooth journey of the public,” said Agus.

Agus mentioned that the free mudik programme provides special joy for motorcycle taxi drivers who have been working hard to serve the public every day.

According to him, motorcycle taxi drivers have an important role in urban people’s lives.

They not only earn a living for their families but also help facilitate public mobility through app-based transportation services. Almost all people today use online transportation services.

Therefore, said Agus, on this special occasion of Lebaran mudik, it is only fitting that drivers have the opportunity to return to their hometowns more easily.

He expressed that the free mudik programme is expected to help ease the travel cost burden for drivers who wish to return to their hometowns during Lebaran.

The programme includes five destination cities for participant mudik travellers. Three of them are located on Java Island: Kuningan in West Java, Semarang in Central Java, and Surabaya in East Java.

Meanwhile, the other two destinations are outside Java Island, namely Lampung and Palembang.
