AHY: Israel-US Conflict Escalation Could Impact Global Economy and International Aviation
Infrastructure and Regional Development Coordinator Minister Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) has expressed concern over the outbreak of military attacks between Israel, the United States, and Iran.
AHY believes the conflict escalation has the potential to trigger geopolitical shocks that will impact global security stability, including the Southeast Asia region.
AHY stressed that the Indonesian government continues to monitor the situation to take mitigation steps, particularly regarding direct impacts on the air transport infrastructure sector.
“We deeply regret this war happening again. It will certainly cause geopolitical shocks, especially in the Middle East, and the impact will be felt all the way to our region in Southeast Asia,” AHY said at Lapangan Banteng, Central Jakarta, Saturday (28 February 2026).
AHY highlighted risks to international air routes. He noted that airlines must now recalculate their routes to ensure passenger safety. According to him, the use of long-range missiles and rockets in the conflict makes airspace around the conflict zone unpredictable and dangerous for civil aviation.
“We continue to anticipate and hope this can be mitigated, including hopefully not too much disruption to aviation. However, airlines will certainly recalculate because safety is number one. It’s a war using long-range missiles, the trajectories are difficult to predict,” he explained.
Beyond safety concerns, AHY warned that this conflict is not only a humanitarian tragedy but also a real threat to global economic stability. He underscored the potential energy sector crisis given the Middle East’s strategic position in the oil and gas supply chain.
“Once again, we hope this can end soon. Because if it continues, it will cause serious challenges in the economic sector, including global energy security,” AHY concluded.
