AHY Ensures Swift Handling of High-Speed Train Accident Victims
Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), visited victims of the KRL Commuter Line accident being treated at Bekasi City General Hospital on Tuesday (28/4/2026). He did so after leading an emergency meeting at the site of the collision at Bekasi Timur Station. Menko AHY explained that the victims who were successfully evacuated are now spread across several hospitals in Bekasi City and Regency, with Bekasi City General Hospital serving as one of the main treatment centres. Several victims have sustained various injuries, ranging from broken bones to dislocations, and he assured that they are being well managed. “I saw some who are still in the rooms, waiting for surgery and so on. I also spoke with the patients. There are various cases, some with fractures or dislocations in their shoulders, legs, or arms,” AHY told the media. He also conveyed his deepest condolences for the incident that claimed lives. As of Tuesday afternoon WIB, 15 people had died as a result of the severe collision involving the train carriages. AHY emphasised that the government is fully committed to ensuring that victim handling is carried out to the maximum and comprehensively. “This is certainly a great loss, deepest sorrow. We extend our condolences to the victims’ families and may they all be granted the best in the hereafter,” said the Chairman General of the Democratic Party DPP. AHY noted that the rapid evacuation process on the night of the incident was a crucial factor in saving the victims. A total of 163 ambulances were deployed simultaneously to transport the victims to the nearest health facilities. AHY appreciated the synergy of all parties, including Bekasi City Government, medical personnel, PT KAI, Basarnas, TNI, Polri, as well as support from Jasa Raharja and BPJS Kesehatan. “Currently, I want to ensure that all victims can undergo good medical treatment and recover quickly after being handled so they can resume their normal activities,” said AHY.
