Ahmad Muzani Distributes 5,000 Relief Packages to North Sumatra Disaster Victims Ahead of Eid
The Speaker of Indonesia’s People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), Ahmad Muzani, has distributed 5,000 relief packages to communities affected by disasters in North Sumatra. Muzani stated that the assistance was provided in the lead-up to Eid al-Fitr as a show of support for affected residents.
The aid was handed over directly by Muzani to respective regional heads at the North Sumatra Governor’s Office in Medan on Wednesday, 11 March 2026. The packages were distributed to two affected areas: South Tapanuli Regency received 3,000 packages and Langkat Regency received 2,000 packages.
“Today we are bringing this aid, particularly for two regencies—South Tapanuli with 3,000 packages and 2,000 packages for Langkat Regency,” Muzani said in his remarks.
“This is not to replace the heavy burden felt, but rather to inspire our friends and fellow citizens as they navigate life in the coming months,” he added.
Muzani noted that the disaster which occurred in late 2025 shocked all parties. According to him, the suffering of affected communities is still being felt, despite the government’s various recovery efforts.
“The government is currently working hard to undertake disaster recovery, particularly to restore damaged infrastructure, public facilities, roads, bridges, schools, hospitals, government offices, and residential homes through measures being implemented by the government for repair and rehabilitation,” he explained.
Muzani stated that the aid provided ahead of Eid consists of religious items. These include sarongs, women’s prayer garments (mukena), prayer mats, headscarves, and Qurans.
“Usually during Eid, people need sarongs, mukena, prayer mats, headscarves, and of course the Quran which can bring comfort and inspire their spiritual lives,” he said.
Muzani emphasised that the assistance is not intended to replace the substantial losses experienced by residents. Rather, he said, it represents a gesture of concern and encouragement for communities to rise again following the disaster.
“I hope the cooperation and support provided by the central government, provincial government, and regency/city governments can accelerate the recovery process for the disaster currently being experienced,” he stated.
“Hopefully this Eid celebration will become a new inspiration and renewed enthusiasm as we move forward in life in the coming months,” Muzani concluded.
