East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa received a visit from the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, Wang Lutong, at Graha Amukti Praja, Juanda International Airport, on Tuesday (7/4). Wang Lutong came to East Java to conduct the groundbreaking for the world’s largest melamine factory located in Gresik on Wednesday (8/4).

Khofifah described the meeting with Wang Lutong as intensive and highly productive. The discussion covered various strategic cooperation opportunities, ranging from investment and education to renewable energy.

“Intensive and very productive. It is planned that tomorrow the groundbreaking for the world’s largest melamine factory in Gresik will take place. This is certainly an important matter for East Java,” said Khofifah in the VIP room at Juanda Airport on Tuesday (7/4).

Khofifah mentioned that Wang Lutong would also make a tourist visit to the Mount Bromo area. The Mount Bromo area, as one of the flagship destinations, with this visit will undoubtedly be introduced more widely to the international world.

“The visit to Bromo is an important part so that East Java tourism becomes better known to the world,” said the former Social Minister.

In that meeting, the strengthening of the education and research sectors was also discussed, including improving the quality of human resources (HR), especially for civil servants (ASN).

“We discussed education cooperation, research, and improving ASN competencies through strengthening innovation,” said Khofifah.

Not only that, Khofifah also touched on the importance of transitioning energy from fossil to new renewable energy, including the potential development of solar panels as part of the commitment towards net zero emissions.

Not only industry and tourism, they also discussed the livestock sector. The East Java Provincial Government opened opportunities for cooperation in importing high-productivity dairy cows from China to meet national milk needs.

“Our milk needs are very large. Dairy cows from China can produce up to 50 litres per day per cow. This is a cooperation opportunity that we offer,” said Khofifah.

Chinese Ambassador Wang Lutong appreciated Khofifah’s leadership in driving East Java’s economic growth. Wang admitted that this was his second visit to East Java.

Wang Lutong also stated that China continues to support the development of renewable energy in Indonesia, including in East Java.

“In the solar field, there is already a company that has invested in East Java. We also encourage cooperation to improve HR through vocational education,” said Wang Lutong.

Wang Lutong added that his side is opening wider opportunities for investors to enter East Java, including industrial cooperation and workforce development.

“We hope this cooperation continues to develop and provides benefits for both parties,” he said.
