Ahead of Tumpek Landep, Motorcycle Washing Service at Tabanan Prison Flooded with Customers
The motorcycle washing service at Tabanan Class IIB Penitentiary is flooded with customers ahead of the Tumpek Landep ceremony. Balinese Hindus are arriving one after another to clean their motorcycles that will be used in the Tumpek Landep rituals.
Head of the Inmate Guidance/Student Training and Work Activities Section, Fathkur Rokhman, explained that the Motorcycle Washing Assimilation and Education Facility (SAE) at Tabanan Penitentiary is part of the assimilation programme for inmates. The programme aims to integrate inmates with the community.
“Through this motorcycle washing assimilation, inmates are trained to interact directly with the public. Of course, those participating in this programme have met the requirements and are ready to carry out the activities well,” said Fathkur Rokhman on Friday (17/4/2026).
The motorcycle washing area is located in the back yard of Tabanan Penitentiary. Fathkur hopes that the SAE Motorcycle Washing can serve as a foundation for inmates’ independence, thereby gaining trust from the community.
Head of Tabanan Penitentiary, Prawira Hadiwidjojo, explained that the SAE Motorcycle Washing programme also aims for inmates to be competitive and ready for social reintegration. According to Prawira, the high interest from the public in using the motorcycle washing service is an indicator of the success of the guidance being implemented.
“This enthusiasm from the community is proof that the guidance we provide is running well. The trust given becomes motivation for us to continue improving the quality of guidance so that inmates are ready to return to society,” stated Prawira.
It is known that Hindus in Bali will once again celebrate Tumpek Landep on Saturday, 18 April 2026. Tumpek Landep is celebrated every six months or every 210 days, precisely on Saniscara Kliwon Landep. Tumpek Landep is a day for worshipping Ida Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa in his manifestation as Sang Hyang Siwa Pasupati or a symbol of intelligence and sharpness.
On Tumpek Landep, Hindus purify objects made from metal materials and those included in the category of traditional weaponry. Starting from keris, spears, swords, knives, and other weaponry tools.
Lately, various technology products that contain metal elements are also included in the Tumpek Landep rituals. Starting from motorcycles, cars, televisions, computers, and so on. These technology products are ritualised because they are considered to have helped facilitate human life activities.
