Ahead of the Lebaran holiday, the Planetarium adds a ticketing system and themed screenings
Jakarta Planetarium operators are preparing a set of service improvements ahead of the Lebaran holiday. The updates include adding a ticketing system and a range of themed screenings to make the visitor experience more varied.
Iwan Takwin, Chief Executive Officer of PT Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro), said public enthusiasm for the Planetarium has been high since it reopened. Accordingly, the organisation is preparing a series of strategies to anticipate a surge in visitors during the holiday period.
“Furthermore, ahead of the Lebaran holidays, after a three-month promotional period we will introduce something new,” Iwan said at Taman Ismail Marzuki in Central Jakarta on Saturday, 7 March 2026.
Iwan explained that going forward the shows at the Planetarium will no longer be limited to a single type as in the early days of opening. Each show session will have a different theme.
“Previously, colleagues only watched one show from session one to four. In the future, each session will have a different thematic,” he added.
With this concept, visitors could attend more than one session per day as the content differs. The format will be similar to cinema experiences.
“So it will be possible for residents to watch twice a day or to come back because the format will be packaged like cinemas commonly shown at XXI or CGV,” he explained.
In addition to expanding the range of screenings, the organisation is also improving service delivery. One aspect is adding a ticketing system so visitors are not queueing at a single point.
“Later the ticketing system will not be from just one point. There will be several facilities or ticketing options to support it, so there won’t be a crowd in one place,” he said.
Jakpro is also preparing the option to purchase tickets offline on site. This step is intended to mitigate issues with ticket purchases that had drawn attention previously.
“Offline ticket sales will also be arranged here to mitigate the issues previously associated with the Planetarium,” he said.
Moreover, the show concepts will be made more interactive, especially to attract children and students to be more interested in learning astronomy.
“Going forward there will be more interactions so that children or students can further increase their sense of curiosity,” he added.
