Ahead of Mudik, Toll Road Pothole Repairs Accelerated to Ten Days Before Lebaran
Preparing for the Lebaran mudik, drivers travelling on toll roads are urged to remain vigilant. The reason: road repairs are still being carried out close to the peak mudik period. This situation could lead to queues of vehicles and even congestion at several repair sites. The road repairs are conducted to ensure the roads remain safe for travellers, particularly amid the still-high rainfall in recent periods.
Uswatun Hasanah, Head of Corporate Communications & Sustainability Management at ASTRA Infra for the Tangerang–Merak Toll Road corridor, said that repairs would continue ahead of Lebaran. ‘Until ten days before the holiday we are given time to carry out repairs on the road sections,’ Uswatun said.
‘Thus (the repairs are still underway). The heavy rainfall is indeed a major challenge. Almost all sections of the toll road are affected, so we feel like we are in a race. When the rain arrives, the next day there is already another pothole,’ she said.
To address this, workers often employ temporary patching methods to prevent the potholes from posing greater danger to road users. Once weather conditions allow, permanent repairs can be carried out.
With repairs continuing into the run-up to Mudik, drivers are advised to anticipate potential queues around project areas. In addition, caution should be heightened for possible potholes on the road, especially when travelling at high speeds. Drivers are also urged to maintain a safe following distance, heed warning signs in the repair zones, and adjust vehicle speed to ensure a safe and comfortable journey home.
