Ahead of May Day 2026, Ministry of Home Affairs Urges Regions to Strengthen Coordination
The Directorate General of Politics and General Government (Ditjen Polpum) of the Ministry of Home Affairs has urged all regional governments (pemda) to increase anticipatory steps ahead of the 2026 International Labour Day (May Day) commemoration. The appeal is directed to governors and regents/mayors throughout Indonesia to maintain regional security and public order stability.
These steps follow up on the results of cross-ministerial and institutional coordination to anticipate and mitigate prominent issues ahead of May Day 2026. “Ditjen Polpum of the Ministry of Home Affairs plays a role in monitoring socio-political dynamics and strengthening synergy between central and regional levels,” stated Ditjen Polpum in a press release in Jakarta on Thursday (30/4/2026).
Regional governments are requested to enhance the active role of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) through regular meetings and early detection measures against potential security and order disruptions. This strengthened coordination is expected to accelerate responses to on-the-ground situations.
In addition, Ditjen Polpum is encouraging regional governments to prioritise social communication approaches by involving various community elements, such as academics, community leaders, students, and labour groups. This approach aims to build constructive dialogue and create a conducive atmosphere through deliberation.
In commemorating May Day positively, regional governments are urged to organise various beneficial activities for the community. These activities include religious events, regional cultural weeks, scientific forums, seminars, public discussions, social services, health services, affordable markets, and other collaborative initiatives involving businesses and labour elements.
