Ahead of Mandatory Halal 2026, BPJPH Ensures Modern Retail Readiness
In order to carry out its duties and functions of supervision and development for Halal Product Assurance (JPH), the Halal Product Assurance Organising Agency (BPJPH) held a product supervision activity in modern retail through a direct inspection of the Gandaria City area in Jakarta. This activity is part of BPJPH’s strategic steps to encourage the readiness of modern retail business actors in welcoming the implementation of the Mandatory Halal policy in October 2026, which will take effect on 18 October 2026.
Head of BPJPH, Ahmad Haikal Hasan, stressed that the halal certification obligation is a regulatory mandate that must be fulfilled by all business actors. This policy not only emphasises legal compliance but also aims to create a transparent, accountable, and competitive business ecosystem.
“The halal certification obligation is a regulatory mandate that must be fulfilled by all business actors. BPJPH ensures its implementation runs consistently so that every product circulating provides legal certainty as well as halal assurance for consumer society,” said Babe Haikal at Gandaria City, Jakarta, on Tuesday (21/4/2026).
Babe Haikal also emphasised that the organisation of JPH is based on the principle of public protection through clear product information. Products that have been halal certified must include halal label information, while non-halal products must provide clear non-halal statements. This clarity of information becomes an important foundation for consumers in making choices according to their needs and beliefs.
“Halal certification is not just a regulatory obligation, but also a strategic investment for business actors. With a halal certificate, products gain added value in the form of consumer trust, market access expansion, and stronger competitiveness at both national and global levels. Clarity of halal or non-halal labels becomes the key to transparency of information for consumers,” said Babe Haikal.
He added that from the business actors’ perspective, halal certification provides strategic added value, including increasing consumer trust, expanding market access, and strengthening product competitiveness in national and global markets.
Deputy for JPH Development and Supervision, EA Chuzaemi Abidin, said that through direct field supervision, BPJPH ensures that JPH implementation runs according to provisions while strengthening business actors’ understanding of the obligations that must be fulfilled. The supervision is carried out in an integrated manner with a development approach.
“BPJPH not only ensures administrative compliance but also provides education to business actors regarding halal certification obligations, application mechanisms, and steps that need to be prepared in facing the Mandatory Halal October 2026,” said Chuzaemi.
According to him, this activity is part of BPJPH’s concrete steps in strengthening supervision as well as development in the modern retail sector to ensure business actors’ readiness so that the implementation of Mandatory Halal October 2026 can run effectively and orderly, in accordance with statutory regulations.
