Ahead of the Eid homecoming rush in 2026, national fuel availability has been assured as safe. This was stated by Herman Khaeron, a member of Indonesia’s House of Representatives Commission VI and Secretary General of the Democratic Party, on Sunday evening (8 March) whilst in Cirebon.

“I have participated in evaluations with various relevant parties, including Pertamina, PLN, and land transport operators regarding preparations for increased public mobility during Eid,” he said.

The evaluation results indicated that national fuel stocks remain sufficient to support public demand during both the outbound and return homecoming periods. “According to yesterday’s evaluation, for the outbound and return journeys, fuel availability in terms of both supply and affordability is ready and still adequate for 21 working days. So it remains sufficient for 21 days, and this will continue to be increased in line with demand levels, which will certainly be needed both during the outbound journey and upon return,” he continued.

During the occasion, Khaeron also urged the public not to worry about fuel availability during the Eid homecoming period. “We must remain calm and need not worry about fuel availability for the Eid homecoming rush,” he appealed.

However, Khaeron acknowledged that the current global situation is placing pressure on world energy prices. The escalating geopolitical situation in the Middle East region, including the closure of strategic shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz—a major conduit for global oil distribution—has contributed to this pressure.

Subsidised fuel

Khaeron noted that Indonesia has faced similar circumstances previously, when world oil prices surged during the presidency of the sixth President, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. However, at that time, the government was able to manage the impact of price increases through measured policy, including the provision of social safety nets and economic stimulus for the public.

Khaeron expressed confidence that the current government under President Prabowo Subianto has prepared various strategies to address global pressures whilst maintaining domestic economic stability. “The government will likely continue to maintain subsidised fuel prices so as not to burden the public,” he added.

He was confident that there would be no fuel price increases until Eid al-Fitr, except for floating price fuel. “A compensation policy could also be one option to ensure that energy price increases do not exceed the public’s purchasing power,” Khaeron concluded.
