Ahead of Hajj 2026, DPR Urges Government to Anticipate Flight Disruptions Arising from Middle East Conflicts
Jakarta — Member of Commission VIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Dini Rahmania, urged the government to anticipate potential disruptions to Hajj and Umrah flights following the escalation of conflict in the Middle East region.
‘The development of this situation must be a shared concern, especially to ensure the protection of Indonesian Umrah pilgrims and prospective Hajj pilgrims,’ Rahmania said in a statement quoted in Jakarta on Thursday (5 March 2026).
The legislator from East Java’s 2nd electoral district (Dapil Jawa Timur II) called on the state to actively ensure that Indonesian Hajj and Umrah pilgrims currently undertaking or planning to undertake their rites in Saudi Arabia are safe and receive clear, accurate, and transparent information.
Concerning the departure of Indonesian Hajj pilgrims due to begin on 22 April, Rahmania asked that the readiness of the Hajj Affairs Office and all Indonesian representations in Saudi Arabia be optimised. This would enable pilgrims to obtain guidance and prompt responses in the event of an emergency.
Additionally, Rahmania reminded that oversight of Umrah travel organisers (PPIU) should be tightened to safeguard pilgrims’ rights.
‘The preparations for this year’s Hajj must proceed optimally while remaining adaptable to global developments. We must not panic, but we must not be lax either. Risk mitigation must be prepared from the outset so that pilgrims can perform their rites with calmness and devotion,’ he said.
