Ahead of Eid, Rano Karno Calls on Jakarta Residents to Safeguard the City
Jakarta — Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno has called on all residents to protect Jakarta, particularly as Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah approaches in 2026.
“Protecting Jakarta is not an easy matter. That is why, through the spirit of ‘Safeguard Jakarta’, we must recognise that this city belongs to all of us,” Karno said in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.
He stated that public order can be more easily achieved if maintained collectively.
He made these remarks whilst attending a gathering and breaking of the fast together with religious leaders, Islamic scholars, habaib, and community figures at Jakarta City Hall in Gambir, Central Jakarta on Tuesday (17 March), alongside Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung.
“The presence of Islamic scholars, habaib, and community figures is an honour for us. Through this gathering, we not only strengthen brotherhood but also reinforce our collective role in safeguarding the life of Jakarta residents,” said Rano.
According to him, these achievements are inseparable from the prayers and support of DKI Jakarta residents.
Several programmes that have been implemented include the Free Jakarta Card for custodians of places of worship and Operational Assistance for Places of Worship (BOTI).
“Incentives for mosque imams, Quranic teachers at mosques, Quranic teachers at prayer rooms, mosque caretakers, funeral care workers, and accident or death benefits have also been provided. We extend our gratitude to the Indonesian Mosque Council of DKI Jakarta Province and PT Transjakarta for their collaboration and support,” said Rano.
Furthermore, he stated that Ramadan is an opportune moment to foster empathy and social concern.
He believes happiness becomes more meaningful when accompanied by a spirit of sharing and mutual assistance.
“May we close Ramadan with abundance and become more pious individuals,” he concluded.
