Ahead of the 2026 Eid holiday, Depok Metro Police conducted health examinations of dozens of intercity bus crews on Monday, 16 March 2026 at Jatijajar Terminal, Bogor Road, kilometre 38, Jatijajar Village, Tapos District, Depok City.

The head of the Medical and Health Division of Depok Metro Police, Yanoverarto Setio Putro, stated that crews from intercity and provincial buses underwent health screening to reduce the risk of traffic accidents caused by human error. “Examinations are conducted ahead of Eid to ensure drivers and crew members are in prime condition—free from hypertension, drug and alcohol influence,” he said.

Yanoverarto emphasised that in addition to screening for hypertension and substance use, the medical team also examined hearing disorders. “If the medical team identifies cases of hypertension, hearing disorders, or alcohol use, drivers and crew are not permitted to operate vehicles during the holiday period,” he stressed.

Ari Manggala Harahap, head of Traffic at the Depok City Transportation Department, stated that his office continues to conduct vehicle roadworthiness inspections (ramp checks) of passenger transport fleets at Jatijajar Terminal. “This activity is carried out as a precautionary measure to ensure all vehicles used by the public during mudik are in safe and roadworthy condition,” Ari said.

He explained that ramp checks are part of efforts to enhance transport safety during the Eid migration period. “The main objective is to ensure public transport vehicles are in proper roadworthy condition, providing safety and comfort for passengers,” he added.

The inspections targeted not only intercity buses but also tourism and travel vehicles commonly used during the holiday season. “Priority checks focus on intercity buses, but we also inspect tourism and travel vehicles as they are heavily used during mudik,” he explained.

The ramp check examination covered various important aspects, including technical vehicle systems and administrative documentation. Components inspected included braking systems, vehicle lighting, tyres, wipers, seatbelts, and overall vehicle condition. Vehicle documentation such as registration certificates (STNK), emissions testing (KIR), operational permits, and driver administrative documents were also verified.

Based on preliminary findings in Depok City, some vehicles were found to have deficiencies in both technical and administrative areas. “From initial results, we still found some vehicles not meeting standards, particularly regarding administrative completeness or technical components requiring repair,” Ari stated.

He affirmed that vehicles failing to meet safety standards would be issued warnings and prohibited from operating until repairs were completed. “If a vehicle is deemed unsafe, we require operators to conduct immediate repairs. If conditions are dangerous, the vehicle is not permitted to operate until it meets safety standards,” he stressed.

Ari noted that ramp checks were conducted in coordination with relevant agencies, including the police, Jasa Raharja (a state insurance company), and other institutions. “We coordinate with these agencies to ensure ramp checks are executed effectively and passenger safety is truly guaranteed,” he concluded.

The Depok City Transportation Department hoped that through this initiative, all passenger transport fleets operating during the Eid mudik period would meet safety standards. “So that the potential for road accidents can be minimised,” he said.

Traffic Unit Head of Tasikmalaya City Police, AKP Riki Kustiawan, reported that traffic flow on national arterial routes from West Java towards Central Java at H-6 (six days before Eid) had not yet shown significant volume increases. On Monday, 16 March, the number of travellers entering Central Java via the Trans-Java Toll Road continued to increase from Sunday, 15 March, with an average of 1,400–1,900 vehicles entering Semarang City daily.

The increasing volume of travel and many travellers running out of toll card credit caused queuing problems. Pelindo Group dispatched participants in the 2026 Joint BUMN Mudik Program under the theme “Safe Mudik, Sharing Hope” to assist citizens returning to their hometowns. Thirteen public electric vehicle charging stations (SPKLU) were provided at Rest Area km 575 B and 14 units at Rest Area km 575 A, operating 24 hours.

The Ministry of Village Development and BKKBN prepared family service posts at various strategic locations across the 31 provinces along the 2026 Eid mudik routes. At H-5 (five days before Eid), PT ASDP’s Ternate Branch recorded increased passenger traffic on routes connecting Ternate, Moti, Makian, and Sofifi.

Health officials noted that measles cases this year declined relative to the previous year, with no fatalities recorded. The high mobility during this period underscores vehicle condition, particularly tyre quality, as a critical safety factor. Energy efficiency can be achieved by reducing wasted energy from three main factors: driving behaviour, vehicle condition, and cargo load.
