Ahead of Eid, Beef Prices at Tomang Market in West Jakarta Reach Rp 160,000
JAKARTA - Ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah, the price of beef sold at Pasar Tomang Barat, commonly known as Pasar Kopro in Tanjung Duren, West Jakarta, has now risen to Rp 160,000 per kilogram. Adi (37), a beef trader who has been selling at Pasar Kopro for five years, said the price increase began nearly a week ago. “Currently, the beef price has reached Rp 160,000 per kilogram. It has been rising since H-7 before Eid,” Adi told Kompas.com at his stall on Wednesday (18/3/2026). He added that this increase is quite significant compared to mid-Ramadan prices, which were still around Rp 135,000 to Rp 140,000 per kilogram. This has led to a decline in buyer interest compared to the lead-up to Eid last year. “Compared to last year, there has been a slight decrease (in buyers). Perhaps because the price is quite high. Last year, it peaked at Rp 150,000. According to buyers, it’s probably too expensive, so only certain groups are buying,” Adi said. He estimated that the peak crowds would only occur on H-2 before Eid. Nevertheless, Adi assured that beef stocks are in a safe condition. He said he receives supplies directly from the Cakung Animal Slaughterhouse (RPH) managed by PD Dharma Jaya. Not only beef, but also commodities like cut broiler chickens and free-range chickens, which are usually the main ingredients for traditional Eid opor dishes, have experienced price increases. Tohir, a chicken trader at Pasar Kopro, said the chicken price rise has occurred gradually since H-5 before Eid. Meanwhile, free-range chickens from Purwokerto, Central Java, which are usually the most sought-after for Eid dishes, now cost nearly Rp 100,000 each. “The price increase for free-range chickens isn’t that much, around Rp 90,000 to Rp 95,000. What used to be Rp 65,000 has become Rp 70,000,” he said. Despite the price rise, Tohir said demand remains steady because chicken is a primary need during Eid.
