Ahead of Eid al-Adha, Passengers Urged to Choose Buses that Pass Safety Checks
JAKARTA – Ahead of the extended holiday for Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijri, which takes place next week, the Ministry of Transportation is ensuring the readiness of public transport, particularly intercity and inter-provincial buses (AKAP).
Public mobility is expected to increase on several road sections and transportation hubs during the Eid al-Adha holiday period this year.
The peak outbound travel period is projected to occur on 26 May 2026, whilst the return journey is estimated to peak on 1 June 2026.
“We are always endeavouring to guarantee public safety, including increased supervision of public transport through ramp checks at terminals and bus depots, as well as road safety awareness campaigns,” said Director-General of Land Transportation Aan Suhanan in an official statement.
The Ministry of Transportation is also conducting inter-ministerial and inter-agency coordination, deploying personnel at strategic points, and increasing operational supervision to anticipate the surge in public movement.
The inspections cover various technical aspects of vehicles, ranging from braking systems, lights, and tyres to administrative documentation for buses.
“For the ramp check itself, we conduct it routinely at 115 Type A terminals (TTA). During the period from 1 January to 15 May 2026, we have conducted more than 1.4 million inspections of AKAP buses departing from TTA,” he said.
Aan urged the public to ensure that buses used have met safety requirements and passed road worthiness tests. One indicator is the presence of a ramp check sticker affixed to the vehicle’s front window.
Additionally, the public can also utilise the Mitra Darat application to independently check information on public transport and vehicle worthiness status before travelling.
