Ahead of Eid al-Adha 1447 AH, the Jakarta Provincial Government, through the Food Security, Marine and Agriculture Service (DKPKP), has stepped up surveillance and health checks on sacrificial animals. The preventive measure has received full support from Ade Suherman, a member of Commission B of Jakarta’s DPRD.

Ade Suherman stressed that surveillance from the livestock’s entry point to sale areas is crucial to ensure the availability of healthy animals suitable for consumption in the capital.

‘Health checks for sacrificial animals are not only about administration, but relate to protecting public health and the comfort of residents in carrying out the sacrifice,’ he said.

As a legislator responsible for food security, he highlighted the importance of tightening livestock traffic, given the high mobility of animals from outside the region to Jakarta. In his view, verification of health documents, physical examinations, and monitoring at sale points must be integrated to prevent the spread of communicable diseases.

‘Jakarta as a destination for livestock distribution requires a strict and integrated surveillance system so that residents receive healthy and safe sacrificial animals,’ he said.

Moreover, Ade welcomed the implementation of a digital system in monitoring livestock traffic and document verification. He believes technology can increase transparency while speeding up the monitoring of animal distribution from their regions of origin.

Regarding the Health Certificate for Animals (SKKH), he said the document is an important instrument for consumer protection as well as legal certainty for farmers.

‘The SKKH provides safety for the public when buying sacrificial animals, while also boosting trust in traders who meet health standards,’ he asserted.

Ade urged Jakarta residents to be more selective when buying sacrificial animals. He advised people to choose official sale locations that are registered and supervised by government officers.

On the other hand, he hoped Eid al-Adha would have a positive impact on the economy, especially for farmers and distribution players involved in sacrificial animals.

‘Eid al-Adha is not only a religious moment but also a driver of the people’s economy. Therefore, good oversight must go hand in hand with protection for business actors who comply with the rules,’ he said.

In closing, he reaffirmed that the Jakarta DPRD remains committed to strengthening the food safety system to maintain public trust.

‘We want people to perform their sacrifices with calm, safety and comfort, because the state ensures the quality and health of animals circulating in Jakarta,’ concluded Ade Suherman.
