Jakarta, VIVA – The President Director of PT Agrinas Pangan Nusantara, Joao Angelo De Sousa Mota, confirmed that importing 105,000 pick-up trucks from India will save up to Rp 46.5 trillion in budget.
“With the procurement of these facilities and infrastructure, Agrinas Pangan can achieve savings of Rp 46.5 trillion,” said Joao at a press conference at the Agrinas Pangan office, Jakarta, Tuesday, 24 February 2026.
However, he admitted that he could not disclose more details about the figures, as he was bound by a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) regarding this matter.
He only assured that the details of the procurement budget would later be submitted to the Ministry of Finance.
Joao said that previously, Agrinas had tried to involve several local car manufacturers in the qualification and negotiation process for the procurement.
However, it turned out that the capacity of local truck manufacturers that could meet the requirements was only able to supply a total of 45,000 units. These include 20,600 units of Mitsubishi Fuso, 13,500 units of Foton Aumark, 10,000 units of Hino, and 900 units of Isuzu Canter.
Because, considering the limitations in domestic production capacity, Agrinas finally decided to import 35,000 trucks from Tata Motors India.
Meanwhile, it turned out that no single-cabin 4x4 pick-up trucks were produced in Indonesia. Moreover, the price also exceeded the available budget.
In fact, Joao continued, Agrinas certainly hoped to get a more competitive price because it would be buying in large quantities. However, the invited local manufacturers still calculated the price per unit.
“Until the very end, we did not receive or were given the opportunity to offer a special price, so we were forced to import from abroad,” he said.
