Agrinas Chief Says No Decision Yet on Postponing Pickup Truck Imports from India

  • Antara

VIVA – The President Director of PT Agrinas Pangan Nusantara, Joao Angelo De Sousa Mota, confirmed that the import of 105,000 pickup trucks from India for the operational needs of the Village/Urban Cooperative (Kopdes) Merah Putih is still ongoing and that no decision has been made to postpone it.

This is in response to the rejection of pickup truck imports from India for the operational needs of the Village/Urban Cooperative Merah Putih. According to him, so far, the opposition to the import of vehicles has come from certain individuals and groups, not the government or the public.

“Who is rejecting this? Because we are a state-owned enterprise, we will certainly comply with the government and the people. So, we are only loyal to the country and the people, not to certain individuals or groups who are rejecting it,” said Joao at a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday, 24 February 2026.

However, Joao affirmed that, as a state-owned enterprise, they will comply with any decision made by the government and the DPR (House of Representatives) regarding the import of pickup trucks from India, and they are prepared to take responsibility for all the consequences of that policy.

“Whatever decision the country makes, whatever decision the DPR makes, that is the voice of the people and represents the people. As Director (of Agrinas), I will comply, I will be loyal, and I will abide by whatever decision the country makes if it is indeed in the interest of the people,” said Joao.

He also assured that further action regarding the units that have arrived in Indonesia will still await official instructions from the government before they are used or distributed. If it is later decided that the vehicles cannot be used, Agrinas will fully comply with that decision, even if it potentially leads to business consequences.

Joao stated that he is prepared to take responsibility for all risks, including the possibility of lawsuits from suppliers due to changes in policy from the government.

“So, if we are told that they cannot be used, we will not use them. So, whatever the risks, those are the consequences that I must take. And I must stand in front and take responsibility for this step,” he said.

According to him, this responsibility is part of the commitment as a president director who must stand in front in every strategic decision. He also opened the door for dialogue with suppliers if there is a potential for penalties or losses, so that the best business solution can be found.
