Jakarta – Indonesia’s Agriculture Minister (Mentan) Andi Amran Sulaiman has joined forces with the National Police (Polri) to strengthen domestic corn production in order to guarantee supplies of raw materials for animal feed whilst supporting the development of alternative bioethanol-based energy within the country.

Irjen Pol Anwar, Assistant to the National Police Chief for Human Resources, stated that the collaboration would focus on expanding corn-planting areas through land optimisation, agricultural machinery modernisation, provision of superior seeds and fertilisers, as well as strengthening the harvest absorption and distribution system from upstream to downstream.

“We’ve already discussed this with the Agriculture Minister, and going forward we’ll implement these optimisation measures in the hope of achieving 1 million hectares of corn cultivation. And later, besides being used for animal feed, it can also be used for energy. That’s the essence of it,” said Anwar following his meeting with Minister Amran in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Anwar stated that Polri was committed to actively encouraging increased national corn production as part of efforts to strengthen national food self-sufficiency.

Previously, he said, Polri had targeted corn planting of 1 million hectares in 2025. However, actual planting had only reached approximately 650,000 hectares, prompting various acceleration measures to be implemented, including coordination with the Agriculture Ministry.

According to Anwar, acceleration efforts are being carried out through strengthened support from upstream to downstream, including modernisation of agricultural machinery, provision of superior seeds, fertilisers, and strengthening of harvest collection and sales systems.

Going forward, Polri is targeting corn-planting areas to reach and potentially exceed 1 million hectares through cross-sectoral collaboration involving ministries, officials, farmers, and various other stakeholders.
