Agriculture Minister: KAMMI Youth Key to Farmer Regeneration and Safeguarding Food Self-Sufficiency
Jakarta (ANTARA) — Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman has affirmed that the involvement of youth from the Indonesian Muslim Students' Action Union (KAMMI) is vital for farmer regeneration and strengthening regional productivity, in order to reinforce national food resilience, sovereignty and self-sufficiency.
"The collaboration between KAMMI's Central Executive Board and the Ministry of Agriculture forms part of the support for President Prabowo Subianto's food self-sufficiency programme, as well as a strategy to strengthen national resilience amid global food crisis challenges," the minister said in a statement in Jakarta on Saturday (21 February).
National food self-sufficiency efforts have received concrete support from the younger generation. KAMMI's Food Brigade in Selakau District, Sambas Regency, West Kalimantan, successfully produced rice that was handed directly to Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman in Jakarta.
The presentation of Sambas Rice samples by KAMMI Central Executive Board Chairman Ahmad Jundi Khalifatullah and KAMMI's Environment and Forestry Division Head Aulia Furqon served as a symbol of the youth organisation's active involvement in supporting increased national production and the broader food self-sufficiency agenda.
The minister welcomed the initiative and encouraged the strengthening of synergy between the government and the younger generation in accelerating national production targets.
According to Amran, youth involvement is a crucial component of farmer regeneration and the strengthening of regional productivity as the foundation of national food resilience and sovereignty.
"Food security is not merely a government programme, but a strategic national agenda. Students must get directly involved as part of the solution. What we have done in Sambas is proof that young people are capable of being the driving force behind agricultural productivity and regional self-reliance," said KAMMI Central Executive Board Chairman Ahmad Jundi Khalifatullah.
Jundi stated that he had personally led a major harvest at the location as part of the Food Brigade's development, based on community empowerment and optimisation of agricultural land in the region.
He also emphasised the importance of agricultural modernisation grounded in community empowerment. According to him, the modernisation of farming equipment in the Food Brigade is not merely about technology, but about taking the side of the people.
"When farmers are given easier means of land cultivation, productivity increases, welfare rises, and regions become stronger. This is the foundation of national food sovereignty," he said.
Meanwhile, KAMMI's Environment and Forestry Division Head Aulia Furqon assessed that Andi Amran Sulaiman is the first Agriculture Minister to consistently give special attention and strategic space for youth involvement in national agricultural sector development.
According to him, this commitment opens a new chapter of collaboration between the government and the student movement in strengthening Indonesia's food resilience and sovereignty.
