Jakarta (ANTARA) - Agriculture Minister (Mentan) Andi Amran Sulaiman stated that Indonesia is preparing to export fertiliser to several countries, including 250,000 tonnes to Australia and 500,000 tonnes to India.

Meeting at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday, Minister Amran said he would report on the food sector’s condition to the President during a Limited Meeting, including the availability of 5.2 million tonnes of rice stock.

“But what’s interesting is that we are exporting fertiliser to Australia, and India has also requested 500,000 tonnes. Their ambassador called me directly,” said Amran.

In detail, Amran mentioned that Indonesia has exported 250,000 tonnes of fertiliser to Australia and plans to send domestic fertiliser production to India for 500,000 tonnes.

He also noted potential for fertiliser exports to Brazil and the Philippines.

When asked about the export value to those two countries, Minister Amran said calculations for the value Indonesia will receive are still underway.

“I’ll calculate it later; the higher the better,” he said.

According to him, in total, Indonesia is committed to exporting around 1 million tonnes of urea abroad.

Previously, the government also announced a 20% reduction in subsidised fertiliser prices to maintain domestic production while responding to the potential global fertiliser crisis.

The Minister, in a statement on Monday (4/5), said that as global fertiliser prices surged by more than 40% due to supply disruptions, President Prabowo took a different approach by lowering subsidised fertiliser prices by 20% to ensure the continuity of national food production.

“President Prabowo has anticipated from the start that the world is heading towards an unstable period. He instructed us not to wait for the crisis to arrive but to address it with policy,” said the Minister.
