Makassar, South Sulawesi - Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman stated that three countries have submitted requests to import urea fertiliser from Indonesia amid the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, underscoring Indonesia’s robust position as a strategic global producer. “We will export urea because we are a urea producer; several countries have already requested it. There are three countries requesting,” the minister said when met on the sidelines of inspecting the Bulog Panaikang Warehouse, accompanied by Acting Deputy Director of Perum Bulog Marga Taufiq in Makassar on Sunday. However, the minister has not yet disclosed the identities of those countries as the negotiation process is still ongoing, with hopes that the agreements reached will provide added value and optimal benefits for Indonesia. “Yes, later; this is still in negotiation so that our price can be a bit better,” Amran remarked. According to the minister, this strategic step is part of the visionary policy of President Prabowo Subianto, who has a strong instinct in safeguarding the resilience of the agricultural sector, including ensuring the availability of production inputs amid global dynamics. He also affirmed that political tensions in the Middle East region do not significantly impact food prices in Indonesia because the current national rice availability is safe and sufficient to meet public needs. Those stocks reach 4.5 million tonnes, secure for up to 11 months ahead. Previously, the President Director of PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero), Rahmad Pribadi, stated that urea fertiliser exports will continue as long as domestic needs are fulfilled, with the primary priority being to maintain availability and stability of supply for the national agricultural sector.
